What Else Can An iPad Do?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Is it a feminine product?

Is it a cool, hip, stylish apartment unit?

Is it a chair cushion with USB technology?

Is it a notebook with Firewire?  (and by notebook I mean an actual paper notebook from the 90’s, not a laptop; hilarious blast from the past, I know!)

Guess what?!  It’s none of those things!  It’s a giant iPhone that you need bigger pants to put it in!  Honestly, I see its potential in niche markets (home theater control center, security center, smart home dashboard, competitor to the Amazon Kindle, etc.) but as a general web browsing computer with which to make spreadsheets and slideshow presentations?!  Aww, snap!  Oh no he didn’t!

I guess this is the first Apple product I’m a little skeptical about, but I suppose we’ll see if Jobs and the bloodhound gang can do it again, eh?

I’ve probably been the quietest Apple geek with a blog about today’s new product announcement. Guess we’ll see what happens eh? ;)

Speaking of Ninjas, How About That Obama Dude?

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

ObamaHe’s only on day 2 of his presidency, and he’s already kickin’ ass and takin’ names. Amazing how we’ve never really had a president that could bust a move, start a teleconference with the Middle East leaders, and put into motion the closing of the Guantanamo Bay facility, and have dinner with his family all in one day.

Now to me, that seems pretty cool, but I’m sure there’s plenty of speculation (including John Cocaine) who thinks Obama rushed things. I may not know a whole lot about what’s going on with all the topics and issues that the government has to deal with, but it’s only day 2. I think we need to get a feel for what he can do before he’s judged 30 minutes after taking oath (twice, I know). As of right now, I see a dedicated American doing the best he can to begin fulfilling his campaign promises. At this point in time, that’s impressive to me.

Overall, I say give the man a chance to show his stuff before judging his abilities and intentions. Besides, the poor guy and his new techie staff are doing the best they can with all that inferior early 90’s Microsoft shit. It would be nice if they could “Appleify” (in the words of our 43rd prez) the government so that they can be more productive and efficient in resurrecting our fine assed country.

With all that outdated crap, it’s no wonder the CIA and Secret Service are security-phobics. Get some Macs. Save the country. Take the afternoon off and golf.

3G Or Not 3G…

Friday, June 20th, 2008

That, my friends, truly is the question here. For those who are totally petarded when it comes to technology, I’m referring to the 2nd generation (version 2.0) of the iPhone, which was announced on June 9th at WWDC in San Francisco and will be released on July 11th worldwide.

Sure the new version kicks more ass than the 1st generation iPhone. It has 3G technology (faster cell network), GPS, a raised headphone jack (if you own one, you know this was a slightly frustrating on the 1st gen), and a new plastic-ish back that comes in either white or black (16 gig model; 8 gig only in black).

But that’s kinda where I feel the new-ness of the 2nd generation iPhone ends. Everything else that it’s getting is software-based, and all 1st generation iPhone owners are getting the same software upgrade, iPhone software version 2.0.

So am I happy with my 1st gen iPhone yet? Definitely. Do I see the need to upgrade to a 2nd gen yet? Not really. Maybe I’ll consider it when my contract is up next year, and by then it’s possible the 3rd gen will be right around the corner.

Anyone else own an iPhone? What’s your opinion? Leave some 1st generation iPhone love in my comments if you feel so inclined.

Holiday Weekend Recap

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

I hope everyone had a great and relaxing Labor Day weekend. I wish I had done a little more for the holiday, but it was relaxing, yet productive. When I was growing up the Labor Day weekend was always the last weekend that we got to go camping. I suppose that seems like the norm here in the Midwest; especially in Central Wisconsin where I grew up. :) At least this year we got a couple hours Monday evening to sit down on Lake Mendota and grill out and watch the sailboats in front of an amazing backdrop made up of the setting sun and the Madison downtown skyline.

Even though I wish the holiday hadn’t ended so quickly, it’s nice to know that the weekend is almost here again. I vote that we need more Mondays off during the year! Between that and a pretty lax week at the day job, it’s been an overall peaceful work week.

Speaking of work week (no day job stories today to bore you with, don’t worry!), had some good progress on my new found interest in Internet radio widget development. Got the “legal” licensing stuff cleared up with the guy behind the widget that the Gruvsonic widget is based off of. Nice guy, easy to work with. He runs www.nzmac.com, a Mac community in New Zealand. Check it out.

Well, I suppose I should wrap this up and get to work. Have some widget work and paperwork to do. Plus I blew the first part of my evening watching the keynote from the Apple / Steve Jobs event earlier today. An awesome and much needed refresh to the iPod line, let me tell ya! Although after that iPhone price drop, why oh why didn’t I wait?! I guess I really had no way of knowing, just like the other 800,000 iPhone owners from the past 2 months. D’oh!
