This One’s For You Lacey (1984-2010)

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Those of you who read this thing I call a blog regularly know that rarely am I serious.  So consider this my first serious post.  Yesterday, our family suffered a major loss and everyone that was touched by her lost an amazing friend.  Yesterday, around 4:00pm, my cousin Lacey lost her long, incredible battle with leukemia.

I’ll admit we weren’t extremely close.  We didn’t do everything together.  We shared the occasional laugh and conversation here and there, but she was family.  Close family.  And waaaayy too young family.

I remember she was the spunk in our family events, being the sole supplier of bubbliness and happiness for the evening’s festivities.  She was the “evil” whip cracking boss for the family at Jacoby Custom Cues where she worked.  She was always the friendly face of the company when they traveled to Las Vegas for the billiards expo shows.  She cared about everyone and put her family and friends before her.  She was a hard worker.  She was lovable.  She was the up when you were down.  She was full of life and loved life.  She was…. an extraordinary “superhuman”.

Even right now, I can remember her hearty, giggly laugh.  I can remember the wonderful sound of her slightly nasally voice. :)  I remember her ability to live every day to the fullest, like it was her last.  You could see the obvious joy she brought to her sisters, her brother, her mom and her dad.  Their eyes would light up whenever she was around.

At this point, all we can do is look towards the future and continue on with our lives.  That’s what Lacey would have wanted for us, because she was selfless and wanted everyone around her to be as happy and as content with life as she was.  We can go forward now knowing she’s in a better place, where there is no pain and she can still partake in our daily activities through our hearts and our minds.

So if you’re reading this and you were one of those touched by Lacey in her short time with us, feel free to post below with how she touched your life and how you will always remember her.

We will miss you Lacey.  You will remain with us through thick and thin, and when the time comes, God will allow us to be together again for the long haul.  Love you kiddo.
