Several attempts at humor by shows like MadTV and Saturday Night Live years before it came out, and more jokes after it’s original introduction in 2010, the Apple iPad has been the victim of bad feminine product jokes. But shortly after it hit the market last year, most of those jokes died. The Apple iPad ushered in a new era of computing and a new category of devices that have joined the iPod, iPhone and other mobile devices that make up the world known as the “Post PC Era”. Now I’m here to tell you why your next computer could very well be an iPad instead of a desktop computer.
I can just hear your screams now: WHAT DO YOU MEAN MY NEXT COMPUTER MIGHT NOT BE A DESKTOP?! Fret Not! For I’ll tell you why! Because the iPad was designed and created for you, my spiffy non-techie minions!
That’s right, the iPad was not designed for geeks and nerds and computer people. It was designed for parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, YOU. Even though they’ve been around since the dawn of the modern consumer PC, desktop computers can still be a little intimidating and feel unnatural for those who did not grow up in this new high-tech world. It’s not something you’re used to but you’re getting thrown into it anyway because you’re still living in this fast-paced and computerized era.
The iPad was designed to be easy to use for the generations that didn’t grow up with computers. It was conceived with the idea that you could incorporate it into your daily routine as easy and as natural as, say, picking up a newspaper, magazine, or a book. Believe it or not, it’s even easier to use than that old turntable or cassette player. Even if you’ve never picked up any kind of touch screen device before, you already know how to use it. All you do is point with your finger and tap.
If you’ve kept up with your regular news source and aren’t living under a rock, you know that Apple recently released the second generation iPad 2. It’s thinner, faster and even easier to use. If you live in a city that has an Apple Store, I would suggest going and experiencing an iPad for yourself in person. Hands-on is much better than poking around at images of it on the Apple website. If you would rather read about it before playing with one or you don’t have an Apple Store nearby or in your town, I suggest heading on over to the Apple Store Online and doing some homework.
