First Amendment Abuse: The World of Blogging

Newspaper Feed 128x128 First Amendment Abuse: The World of BloggingSince I’m using a blog to communicate with and educate my adoring fans, I figured that talking about the world of blogging as my first topic would be most appropriate. icon smile First Amendment Abuse: The World of Blogging And if you haven’t heard the term “blog” or “blogging”, what awesome rock have you been living under? icon wink First Amendment Abuse: The World of Blogging Most, if not all, people have heard these terms at some point, but only a certain percentage truly understand what they are and mean.

For starters, the word “blog” originates from two words: “web” and “log” (“log” as in journal or diary, nothing else). When blogging was still in its infancy, people referred to a blog as a “weblog”. After awhile, it became too hard to say “weblog”, so what happened? The process of “shortening words because we tend to be lazy” took its toll on this new term and we dropped the “we”, leaving us with “blog”. I bet you feel smarter already. icon smile First Amendment Abuse: The World of Blogging

Now that you know what the word “blog” means and where it came from, it should be easier to understand the why and what of blogging.

So then, WHY do people blog and WHAT do they blog about? People start blogs for a variety of reasons: 1.) personal diaries for self-expression, venting or just to be heard; 2.) individually driven “news” sites that focus on more narrowed topics such as technology, sports, current events, politics or whatever you can dream up; 3.) industry tips and advice given out directly from experts in a particular field that helps others in the same industry, such as graphic design professionals sharing knowledge with beginners and immediate designers or hands-on professionals who provide do-it-yourself (DIY) tips for home remodeling and improvement projects. The list of reasons why people blog is endless, making the Internet an even more viable place to exchange information and knowledge with one another.
